Configuring Mailmodo SMTP requires you to add important domain records like SPF, DKIM and DMARC in your DNS settings. This authenticates that the domain is safe and verified for sending emails.

Steps to find and verify DNS records in Mailmodo

 Go to the Settings page. Sender Domains will open and click on 

 Your contacts would receive emails from the email address you add here. Click on 

 Fill out the AMP form to get your domain AMP whitelisted from Google and Yahoo. Without getting this approval, you would not be able to send AMP emails to the contacts.

After filling the AMP form, you would see a dialog box with the DNS settings. These are your DNS records, 

copy each of them and add them to the DNS management section of your registrar.

 Once they are added, click on 'Refresh and Verify' to get the Verified status for the records. 

The verified status would mark the ready state of the sender id for sending campaigns. 

In case, your AMP whitelisting is pending, you would only be able to send HTML campaigns till the approval happens.

How to configure Mailmodo SMTP for your domain?

Mailmodo allows you to send emails from your Gmail ID using Google's SMTP.

Note Freemail sender IDs (Gmail, Outlook, etc) are not allowed. Please, use your email address configured on any custom (or organisation's) domain.

Here is the step by step process to do so-

Signup/ Login to your Mailmodo account, go to Settings-> Sender Settings ->click on 'Add new Sender'

 Enter the sender mail ID from which mails have to be sent. Then select 'Custom SMTP'

SMTP Name: This is for your reference. You may name it Google<>Mailmodo

SMTP Password: Follow these steps to generate the SMTP password-

Go to your Gmail account, click on Settings->See all settings

Click on Accounts->Google Account Settings

In the Google Account page, select Security from the left pane. Then go to 'Signing in to Google', and make sure 2-Step Verification is turned on for your account. Then click on 'App passwords'

Verify your account credentials, and following screen will show up:

Select app ->Mail ; Select device-> Other (Custom name) . You can put the name as 'Mailmodo' in the next step. Then click on 'Generate'

A 16 character app password will be generated. Copy that password into the 'SMTP Password' block in the 'Custom SMTP' modal in Mailmodo.

Once the details have been successfully added, click on OK. Then on the Mailmodo 'Sender Settings' page, click on 'Verify' in front of the added sender ID.

If the details have been correctly added, a message will be displayed stating 'Your domain verification was successful' , and the Domain Authentication will turn from 'Verify' to 'Verified'.

You may then proceed to Whitelist your sender ID by clicking on the 'Whitelist' button.

Integrating Google SMTP with Mailmodo

You can either use Mailmodo SMTP or AWS SES SMTP for sending emails to your contacts. In this article, we will provide detailed steps on how to configure a new Sender ID using AWS SES SMTP.

Before you begin, please ensure the following prerequisites: 

Make sure you have already configured a sender email address for your AWS SES account. For steps on how to add sender email address in AWS SES, 

 for your AWS account. If you don't have the right permissions, then please work with your AWS account administrator to get the required access or work with them to configure the account.

 Login to your Mailmodo account. Go to the 

 page. Select Sender Settings and click Add New Sender.

Add your sender id and select AWS as SMTP.

There are two ways to add a sender id that uses AWS SMTP-

Go to users from the left panel in the IAM dashboard.

Add a user name and set access type as “

 in policies. Attach them by selecting the checkbox against their name. Click on “

Review the details. Once satisfied, click on 

Download the access credentials CSV or copy paste the credentials somewhere safe.

Go back to Mailmodo and paste these credentials in Mailmodo.

Note: Before sending emails via AWS SMTP, please make sure that the account is in the production state, and not the sandbox state.

Go to SES and select SMTP settings in the left panel.

Copy the SMTP endpoint and paste it in Mailmodo.

 Once created, click on Show User SMTP Security Credentials. Paste that information in Mailmodo.

Adding a Webhook helps you keep track of your mail bounces and complaints. This process is optional but we recommend adding the Webhook and Configuration Set so that users have better control over their deliverability management.

After configuring the AWS SES using access keys or SMTP Credentials, a Webhook URL will be displayed, which you need to add to your SES configuration

Search for SNS in AWS console and click on Simple Notification Service.

Kindly note that SES and SNS must be setup in the same region.

Select Topics from the left panel. Create a new topic.

Select topic type as Standard. Give a name to the topic. 

Once a topic is created click on create subscription.

Topic ARN would be pre filled. Select HTTPS as the protocol. Paste the webhook URL generated in Mailmodo.

Scroll down and click create subscription.

Once a subscription is created, this screen would be visible.

Next go to SES. Select Configuration set from the left panel. Click on Create set.

Name the configuration set. Scroll down and click on create set.

Once the configuration set is created, add the event destination. 

Navigate to event destination tab and click on Add destination.

Select the following event types: Sends, rejects, delivery, hard bounces, complaints.

Select Amazon SNS as destination type. In SNS topic, select the topic you created earlier. Click on Next.

Review the details and click on Add destination.

Paste the Configuration Set name on the Mailmodo tab containing the Webhook URL. Verify the settings and your SMTP will be configured.

Troubleshooting issues with DNS records addition

There may be a situation where even after adding the requisite DKIM, DMARC and SPF records, the domain verification fails on Mailmodo.

Solving this problem requires inspecting the DMARC and SPF records that have been added, and subsequently changing them if incorrect values have been entered.

To check the DMARC & SPF record that has been added to your domain:

Enter your domain name, and click on MX Lookup

Next, click on the drop-down next to MX Lookup, and you can check for DKIM, DMARC and SPF records for your domain:

Now, verify the DMARC & SPF records against their correct values, which are:

Also, keep in mind that multiple DMARC & SPF records are not allowed as they create issues in mail deliverability.

Setting up Mailmodo with AWS SES SMTP

This article explains everything you need to know to set up your account on AWS and configuring your sender domain.

Before you can use Amazon SES or other AWS services, you need to create an AWS account. For more information, see 

 After you create your AWS account, you can start setting up Amazon SES. Search for Simple Email Service in the AWS console.

  When you first start using Amazon SES, your account is in the Amazon SES sandbox. In the sandbox, you have full access to the Amazon SES API and SMTP interface. However, the following restrictions are in effect:

You can send a maximum of 200 message per 24-hour period

You can send a maximum of one message per second.

To start sending emails with Amazon SES, you first have to verify your domain from which the mails will be sent, to confirm that you own it and to prevent others from using it.

Let's demonstrate the process by setting up a domain

 Click on Verified identities in the left panel, and click on Create Identity.

Select the identity type as domain and add your domain name.

Upon identity creation, the following DNS records will be generated. Add these to your DNS records. 

While adding the hostname for DKIM records in your DNS, you will have to remove your domain's suffix from the record. For example, in the above case, the hostname to be added will be _amazonses (and not _amazonses.anubhavati.in) . Same goes for the CNAME type DKIM records. For example, in the above case, the hostname to be added will be t3a6sp7hzxiicyspidwnqclpk52dm2dk._domainkey  

The TTL value should be maintained at default (1 hr)

As next steps, we need to set-up DMARC and SPF records for your domain

Add the following DMARC records for your domain:

If your domain does not have an existing SPF record, you can add the following TXT record to your DNS records

If you already have an SPF record or want to allow multiple senders in your policy, you can do so with include statement. A sample SPF record is shown below.

Let's demonstrate the aforementioned procedure by adding DNS records & configuring AWS SMTP for a domain that's hosted on godaddy.com

 Log-in to your GoDaddy account. Go to Domain Manager > DNS > Manage Zone

 Type in your domain, for which you want to add the DNS records

 Update the DNS records with the records generated in AWS

Once DKIM records have been successfully added, the AWS console should display the 'Identity status' as ‘Verified’ and ‘DKIM configuration’ as ‘Successful’.

Signing up on AWS and setting up your domain

You can either use Mailmodo SMTP or Pepipost SMTP for sending emails to your contacts. In this article, we will provide detailed steps on how to configure a new Sender ID using Pepipost SMTP. 

Before you begin, please ensure the following pre-requisites: 

Make sure you have already configured a sender email address for your Pepipost account. For steps on how to add sender email address in Pepipost, 

 for your Pepipost account. If you don't have the right permissions, then please work with your Pepipost account administrator to get the required access or work with them to configure the account.

For verification, we will send an email to check that your email address is properly configured. If any error is detected, then you would not be able to use that sender email (until errors are resolved).

Setting up Mailmodo with Pepipost SMTP

You can either use Mailmodo SMTP or SendGrid SMTP for sending emails to your contacts. In this article, we will provide detailed steps on how to configure a new Sender ID using SendGrid SMTP. 

Make sure you have already configured a sender email address for your SendGrid account. For steps on how to add sender email address in SendGrid, 

 for your SendGrid account. If you don't have the right permissions, then please work with your SendGrid account administrator to get the required access or work with them to configure the account.

Email verification alone may sometimes not be sufficient for Sender Authentication. In that case Domain Authentication is also required.

Setting up Mailmodo with SendGrid SMTP

If your domain's status is "Blocked", it's generally because your domain is already in use by another Mailmodo account or some other tools altogether. 

Your domain has been previously blocked for sending abusive traffic through our service or another provider

because one or more of the requirements below are not met:

You must own or have administrative access to your domain 

An A record or MX record in DNS must exist for your domain

The organisational domain cannot be used across more than one Mailmodo account (for example, you cannot have mail.acme.com associated with one account while alert.acme.com belongs to another account)

Your domain must have a live and working website at

Contains your privacy policy outlining how you work with your customers' data

Does not contain content that violates Sparkpost's messaging policy

Resides in the same country from where you registered your account
