A/B testing, also known as split testing, is sending 2 different versions of your email to your sample contacts in the email lists/segments to see which version performs better. The version that receives more engagement is then sent out to the rest of your contacts. You can read more about A/B testing 

In this article, you'll learn how to create an A/B testing campaign in Mailmodo. 

Your A/B test campaigns will be created in a series of steps. You start off with deciding what you want to test e.g. subject line or content and then select your lists/segments. You then set up the criteria to automatically decide which version should be selected as the winner and then you review and send the campaign. 

After selecting the template and entering campaign details, to begin creating your A/B test campaign, click Create A/B test at the bottom of the page

You can select to test any of the variables i.e. subject line or content. If you choose content A/B testing you will be able to select 2 templates - Version A and Version B. While doing content A/B testing, we recommend preparing your template versions in advance so that you can select them easily here.  

Select the segments/lists for your campaign and move to the next step to configure. 

 Decide the winning criteria for your A/B test 

In this step, you configure the sample size of your contacts that will receive your A/B tests, the winning criteria, and the time for which your A/B test should run before deciding the winner automatically. 

You can choose the winning metric as Open rate or Click rate based on your test. In case of a tie, we always select Version A as a fallback winner. 

You can review the campaign details and test the emails in the next step and schedule your A/B test campaign successfully. Once the campaign is scheduled, you will start seeing the A/B test performance and winner for your campaign in the A/B test dashboard.

How to create an A/B test campaign ?

How to Use Trigger Campaigns

 are emails which will be triggered by user actions. For eg. A new user signs up on your platform, they will be sent a welcome email. You can create a journey/workflow on Mailmodo or any other CRM you use. Trigger actions are typically a part of these journeys. 

Triggered emails are an effective tool for you to build a relationship with your customers. They need only be set up once, after which everything is an automated flow. In this article, we will cover the stepwise process of setting up (and testing) a trigger email campaign.

Setup and Test Trigger campaigns

With your email template all ready, how do you get it across to your target audience? Mailmodo offers you extensive options to accomplish this task smoothly. This article takes you through all the steps required to test and set your campaign live.

If you’re still rusty on how to create an email template, try reading

Setup and Send Bulk Campaign

Before you start below are few things that would be helpful:

UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameters help track the performance of your campaigns and journeys by providing insights into where your visitors are coming from. By appending UTM parameters to your email and SMS links in Mailmodo, you can analyze conversions and traffic sources in tools like Google Analytics. 

The source of traffic (e.g., Google, Facebook, etc.)

The specific campaign that brought the visitor to your website

What type of content or medium (email, SMS, etc.) was used

You have access to Google Analytics or your preferred analytics tool.

You understand the different UTM parameters (source, medium, campaign, term, and content) and how they map to your campaigns.

How to add UTM parameters in the campaigns

In the campaign setup screen section, toggle on UTM Tracking

By default, Mailmodo appends UTM parameters like:

You can also change the static values by entering the text manually and select the dynamic values from the dropdown. 

Step 3: You can also add custom parameters by clicking on " + Add parameter" 

Here, you can define your own values apart from 

Proceed with editing the content of your campaign and schedule it for delivery.

We automatically append UTM parameters to all links in your campaigns in future once used/enabled for a campaign.

UTM parameters are available for Journeys as well.

The appended parameters are not visible on the platform anywhere as the appending happens at the time of tracking. 

You can send a test campaign or a sample campaign with your internal audience. 

Check the URL in your browser to ensure that your UTM parameters are appended.  

By using UTM parameters, you can gain better insights into your campaigns' performance, helping you make data-driven decisions and optimize your marketing strategy.
