Why Shopify revenue will not be attributed in Mailmodo

Last updated July 7, 2025

In this article we have shared some reasons as to why your campaign attribution may not be reflected accurately.

📣

Prerequisite: 1. Understanding of terms such as attribution and conversion. 2. How journeys and campaigns are created and goals set in Mailmodo.

Reasons for inaccurate attribution in campaigns/journeys

User end

  1. Most common reason is that user uses different email address to make a purchase, rather than the one they got the email campaign on.
  2. User may use a different path to buy rather than directly through email campaign. For example - Going straight to the store to make purchase.

Goal setting

  1. Ensure that your Shopify account is integrated with Mailmodo. And please set journey/campaign goal before publishing the journey. Double check, whether you have chosen the event to be performed from under 'Shopify events'. Once, the campaign/journey becomes live then you cannot edit it.
  2. If many journeys have the same trigger and goals, then a contact getting converted, will get attributed to all those journeys.
  3. If the same goal is set for various campaigns, and the contact is getting enrolled in all of them, then the contact is attributed to all journeys post conversion.
  4. User purchases but after the time frame you set for it be considered as conversion for that campaign/journey. So please ensure users have adequate time to make purchase and nudge them along with reminders.

Conversion delay

Conversion delay happens but in rare cases. Example of conversion delay might be that a user places order after some time has passed since receiving mail.

Integration issue

  1. Integration issue may take place in theory if there are vast number of contacts that are to be synced from Shopify to Mailmodo. The delay in sync could lead to inaccurate attribution. But practically it is not possible, because syncing of contacts happens fast, and to draft and publish journey will take time.
  2. Incomplete data regarding customer information and order details passing between Shopify and Mailmodo could lead to inaccurate attribution.
