What are user properties (also referred to as “contact properties”) and their data types?

User properties are additional information about the contacts allowing you to personalize your communication. For example, first name, gender, age, etc

User properties can also have a data type associated with them on the basis of the value they hold. For example, age can be of data type number, first_name can be of data type string and any other property can be of data type boolean. 

We currently support string, number, boolean, and datetime data type values for user properties. Please refer to this article if you are looking to import datetime values for user properties

What are the default user properties and their data types in Mailmodo?

The below-mentioned properties will be made available by default in Mailmodo and their data type is predefined as below

Now, you can send a contact’s created date, last open, and last click date in any system to us via the addToList API making migration to Mailmodo a bit simpler

What are custom user properties in Mailmodo and how will their data types be determined?

Any other property that you create apart from the default properties will be custom properties

The data type of these properties can be assigned during creation using the dashboard

If the property is sent via API or synced via 3rd party integrations, then the data type will be inferred from the value of the first instance of the property

We’ll update the value of all the properties whenever you upload the values for any of the existing properties

When you integrate with Shopify, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mixpanel, and Segment.io, we’ll automatically map their contact properties to respective default properties in Mailmodo

User Properties in Mailmodo

This article provides steps to format dates using Google Sheets for importing them as user properties using CSV files

Supported Format using Import from CSV option

Mailmodo recognizes and stores values in YYYY-MM-DD format for the DateTime properties uploaded via CSV. Values in any other format will not be stored

 if you are looking to import date properties via API and Integrations.

 Select Format > Number >Custom date and time.

 In the ensuing pop-up, select the date in YYYY-MM-DD format and click on 

 format which is recognized by Mailmodo and the CSV can now be used to import the date values as user properties.

How to format dates for importing them as user properties via CSV?

Mailmodo recognizes and stores values in 

 format for the DateTime properties uploaded via CSV. Values in any other format will not be stored

 for formatting your date values into the YYYY-MM-DD format using MS Excel or Google Sheets

Properties with the values in ISO format at the time of the first encounter by Mailmodo will be assigned date data type. Post that, the values can be sent in both ISO as well as Unix (in seconds)

Values not in ISO/Unix will be sent an error response with the message "The <property_name> property accept(s) values in UNIX/ISO format"

 for the date properties getting imported from the

While syncing, values adhering to ISO/Unix will be stored and the rest will be ignored

Values not adhering will be sent an error response with the message "The <property_name> property accept(s) values in UNIX/ISO format"

How to import date time values for the user properties?

Identifiers are unique values that represent contacts. In Mailmodo, every contact in the system is uniquely identified using the email address of that contact. You identify, add, and update contacts using their identifiers by importing contacts in the system via API, CSVs, manually or by integrating other apps.

1. In case the email address is not provided, the contact is completely ignored.

2. Once the email address is assigned to a contact in the system, it cannot be changed, updated or duplicated to a new one in the existing contact. If a user wants to change the email address of a contact, they will have to create a new contact altogether.

3.The variable used to represent emails associated with contacts is ‘email’.

Emails are used as identifiers in Mailmodo to track contacts before they convert to customers.

Select contacts form the dashboard on the left -> Select All Contacts -> Choose a contact

This tab provides details of contact properties such as email, first name, and last name. Click 

to view additional details. Edit the contact's properties by selecting the 

This tab displays information about all campaigns the contact is a part of. The campaign type can be observed in the top right corner, while the campaign details include the title, subject line, sent date and time, status, and AMP submission information.

This tab gives information about all the journeys the contact is a part of along with the status on the top right. The journey can be viewed by selecting the Preview journey.

This tab gives information about all the events the contact is associated with. You can view the event details be selecting the
